Therabody acquires PowerDot

Therabody makes the percussive massager Theragun, which is highly-regarded and well-known in its field. They have a few other recovery products but the percussive ones sell the most by far.

Therabody has just acquired PowerDot who serves a very similar base of users BUT with an electrical stimulation product – I regularly use the Powerdot DUO #EXCELLENT. So this is likely a great way for Therabody to cross-sell PowrDot to their existing customer base and generally put more marketing oomph behind PowerDot.

I’m a little unsure of PowerDot’s latest product, the STRIG PRO. Unsure only in the sense that I haven’t yet used it. That is a cross-over product that combines electrical stimulation with manual soft tissue mobilization and from the science I’ve heard about, can speed up recovery although not change the outcome. Which is fine.

PowerDot have also had some VERY interesting tech link-ups with Garmin, and STRAVA, whereby your last completed workout was analysed and a likely recovery programme set up for you automatically. Whether or not Therabody is interested in utilising this technology for its percussive products is unknown.

  1. That’s probably even more bad news for the Strava and Garmin integration on Android, according to support this we have to wait until the end of 2021
