Polar V800 update – video overlay, Strava Live Segment, OH1 Fitness test support

Polar V800 -
Polar V800

Some pretty cool stuff from Polar with a frimware update to the V800.

I’d known about the STRAVA Live stuff for a while and the GoPro stuff was obvious if I’d thought about it. The OH1 Test support passed me by somewhat tho I recall it was a notable omission on the OH1 stats (review here…it’s cool)

I just have to find some time to play with it all….

Full press release below for detailed info. Bit too busy to comment further, sorry.  But it would be along the lines of “2018’s updates to the V800 are being tested out now on the V800. Boding well for the next, beefed-up incarnation of Polar’s super tri watch”. Something like that ! ie not starting again from scratch like Suunto did with the Spartans

STRYD Polar V800 Review

Best REI/Wiggle/PMC price is linked to. Prices likely to fall below existing level from 2018 onwards £240/$340/Eu300. .

Polar V800 1.11.49 firmware update – GoPro video overlay, Strava Live Segments® and OH1 Fitness test support

21.11.2017

Heart rate, altitude and speed data overlay to GoPro videosWe’re excited to announce that from now on you can overlay heart rate, altitude and speed data from your Polar V800 directly onto your GoPro videos with Dashware.  Relive your training sessions, and make your videos that much cooler by adding gauges that show your data. Compatible cameras now also include GoPro HERO6 Black, in addition to GoPro HERO4 Silver and Black, and GoPro HERO5 Black and Session.

To help you get started, we’ve created a Polar template that’ll speed up the data overlay process, and give your videos a smooth looking gauge panel. Check out How to overlay V800 heart rate, altitude and speed data to GoPro videos with Dashware to download the template, and to get detailed instructions on overlaying data to your videos.

Strava Live Segments®

We teamed up with Strava to bring real-time running and cycling segment performance onto your V800 with Strava Live Segments®. Strava Segments are previously defined sections of road or trail where athletes can compete for time in cycling or running, and view their real-time performance against a segment’s KOM/QOM as well as their personal record on a segment. After connecting your Flow and Strava accounts, and syncing your favorite segments to your V800, you’ll be notified when approaching any of the segments.

See strava.com/premium/live/segments to learn more and have a look at How can I activate Strava Live Segments on my V800? and Using Strava Live Segments with V800 for instructions on using them on your V800.

Note that you need to have a Strava Premium account to activate the Strava Live Segments® feature on your V800.

OH1 fitness test support

Polar OH1 is an optical heart rate monitor armband that combines versatility, comfort and simplicity. It tracks your heart rate with Polar’s high-quality 6-LED optical heart rate solution, and provides an alternative method for measuring your heart rate. The comfortable textile armband is easy to put on anytime, anywhere and fits snugly, comfortably and discreetly around your arm.

This firmware release brings you the option to also perform the Polar Fitness test on V800 with the OH1 optical heart rate sensor.

Improvements/fixes in this release:

  • Speed and distance from the wrist with GPS calibration
  • Minor enhancements and bug fixes

1 thought on “Polar V800 update – video overlay, Strava Live Segment, OH1 Fitness test support

  1. I had a Polar V800 and I really loved it. Unfortunately, it got broken (out of the warranty period). I thought seriously about buying it again. Finally, I decided to try Forerunner 630 (I got one at a bargain price). I am enjoying this watch also, mainly because the Forerunner has a fantastic feature: compete against a saved workout. But if Polar decides to implement that feature in the V800 in a future firmware update, I will have a dilemma and I could even get the Polar again.
And for me the implementation of that feature should be close to the feature live Strava segments recenlty added
